"After an exhaustive search for a one-level home that also included our desired list of amenities, my husband and I decided it was time to build. We knew building a house was hard; decisions on top of decisions would be required. Where to begin?
Our answer was very experienced general contractor, Brenda Hartness. In our initial meeting, we immediately clicked and the project was underway. She provided guidance and expertise while insuring our list of custom features was worked into the project. Brenda differentiated herself by being thorough, direct, and demanding of quality. "The decision to begin the process of building our “dream house” gave my wife and I a sense of excitement, but also a feeling of uncertainty knowing the challenges that we would face in a project expected to last for many months. The most important decision we had to make was choosing a builder and general contractor who would handle each of the important steps in building our home.
After interviewing and investigating several recommended builders, we chose Hartness Construction Company, with Brenda Hartness and her son, Justin. Our choice was based on her reputation as a builder in West Little Rock where our home would be built. She was known for the excellent crews of subs who would handle every stage – lot preparation, foundation, plumbing, framing, roofing, sheet rocking, flooring, painting, and finishing. We needed craftsmen who would show up when scheduled and who would help us stay on the schedule we had agreed upon with Brenda and Justin. We met on a consistent basis with our builders, and often, with the subcontractors handling special portions of our custom buildout. It was very important to us that we be kept in the loop on all major details and especially on cost issues, and that meant constant communication with Brenda and Justin. We were very happy with response times to our texts and telephone calls and their willingness to meet with us whenever we had questions or wanted to explore options.
We built during COVID with significant price increases and shortages on most building materials. Brenda and Justin were very wise to advise us to pick out materials (paint, tile, flooring, etc.) early in the process to make sure when the time came, our supplies would be available for delivery. No builder can promise there will not be issues in building a home, or that unexpected conditions result in some changes or delays along the way. However, when these did occur, Brenda and Justin patiently worked with us and did their best to meet our expectations and desires and stay on schedule as much as possible, and move toward completion.
The result was the delivery of our “dream house” with everything we wanted, completed in a timely manner, and if we had any issues at all with small details, they were handled in a prompt manner to our complete satisfaction. Even after the one-year period on construction was ending, Brenda was there to address any minor issues my wife had discovered.
I strongly recommend Hartness Construction, and Brenda and Justin, as professional builders, who became our partners who took a personal interest in us and the building of our home, which we love".
